IUPUI is Indiana's premier urban research university. The campus enrolls more than 30,000 students in 21 schools and academic units.
The goal of the Indiana University Visual Identity Initiative is to bring cohesion to the messages and visual identity of all the campuses and units under the IU umbrella, while maintaining the distinctive character of each campus or unit.
Find more information about the IU Visual Identity Program at http://visualidentity.iu.edu. Or download the Integrated Image Guidelines [PDF].
Updates and official information pertaining to the IUPUI campus will be housed on this webpage.
The Integrated Image Program was initiated by the Trustees of Indiana University to help establish a unified, flexible set of standards and guidelines that will enable all elements of IU to contribute to and benefit from a cohesive identity system.
The files available here are for use by all Indiana University faculty and staff. For the full background on the Integrated Image Program, and to view the complete guidelines, see visualidentity.iu.edu.
The marks shown here and all other trademarks, service marks, seals, logos, symbols, mascots, and slogans connected with Indiana University, as well as the university's name, are owned by the Trustees of Indiana University and administered by the IU Office of Licensing and Trademarks. These items are protected under state, federal, and international law, and their use is licensed and controlled to protect IU’s interests. The files may be used for the purpose of carrying out university business, and they may be shared only with those who need them for that purpose.
The files must not be re-digitized, re-proportioned, or altered in any way, though they may be enlarged or reduced. It is possible to convert the files to other formats. However, doing so will compromise the integrity of the images. File conversion should be attempted only by experienced designers with the software and experience to ensure the integrity of the program.
IU users will be asked to register in order to download files. Manufacturers or service providers who wish to use the university’s name or marks on commercial products or in advertising their products or services must first secure a license from Indiana University. Contact IU Licensing and Trademarks at (812) 855-8830 or on the Web at iu.licensing.indiana.edu.
The signature files are provided in EPS and TIF formats.
EPS
If you are using advanced graphics software (e.g., Illustrator) or desktop publishing programs (e.g., QuarkXPress, InDesign), use the EPS format. These images are vector-based, which means they can be sized up or down with no loss of resolution. If you do not have Illustrator, Freehand, Photoshop, or another graphics editing program, you will not be able to open these files, but you can place them into a desktop publishing file.
TIF
TIF images are supported in Mac, Windows, and Unix. TIF files are best for photographs or other continuous-tone images, but less useful for these graphic images. The signature files in TIF format are best used for PowerPoint or MS Word.
CMYK
Professional full-color printing is done using cyan, magenta, yellow, and black inks, resulting in the acronym CMYK. If you are printing on a desktop printer that has four ink cartridges, or sending a full-color job to a commercial printer, use a CMYK file. The CMYK equivalent of IU Crimson is C:0, M:100, Y:63, K:29. The CMYK equivalent of cream, an optional color, is C:7, M:9, Y:20, K:0.
PANTONE®
The Pantone® Matching System, sometimes referred to by its initials, PMS, includes hundreds of colors of ready-mixed printing inks and the formulas for mixing them accurately. If you are printing stationery (business cards, letterhead, or envelopes), the printer will probably use only black and Pantone 201 (IU crimson) inks, rather than all four CMYK inks. If your job is printing only in black, use that version of the signature. For IU cream, an optional color, specify Pantone 9161.
RGB/HEX
The RGB color mode is intended for use on the Web. IU signatures used on the Web should be in GIF format using the hexadecimal equivalent of IU crimson, #7d110c. Hexadecimal cream is #f8f3d2, and is optional. All blacks should be #000000, not a shade of gray.
To maintain a unified identity for Indiana University, these files should be used anywhere the university, campus, school, or department name is normally used. A distinctive, consistent, and well-managed identity system will help us build recognition wherever and however we communicate.
