IU Visual Identity : IU Integrated Image

Integrated Image Roundtable Update - October 15, 2007

Signatures on Envelopes

At the last meeting of the Policy Committee the use of unit level signatures on envelopes was discussed and voted upon. The majority voted to allow the usage of unit level signatures. However, since that time we have learned that the use of the longer unit signature creates a return address block which, in some instances, is in violation of the new postal regulations. Specifically, new postal regulations stipulate that the return address cover not more than one third the height and one half the width of the envelope so that postal scanners can accurately read the zip code.

After a lengthy discussion with both Creative Services and Printing Services I have decided to rescind the decision to allow unit level signatures to be used on envelopes, and to return to the original policy requiring the use of campus level signatures, followed by the unit address in Trade Gothic.
