Logos, Wordmarks & Colors

IUPUI Communications and Marketing is responsible for ensuring the correct use and integrity of IUPUI identifying marks on all University publications, supplies, materials, and equipment, whether produced by the University or an outside agency.

These marks are available for use by any campus department, program, or recognized student organization. By following these guidelines using the wordmarks and spirit marks as indicated, you help ensure that all IUPUI publications and communications will remain immediately recognizable as originating from the campus. Your participation in employing these guidelines will project a strong, consistent institutional image.

Any questions about appropriate use of the IUPUI wordmark and spiritmark should be directed to the office at (317) 274-7711.

For more information about print standards and guidelines, see the Integrated Image Guide [6.64 MB PDF].

IUPUI Official Wordmarks

There are several different wordmarks available for use in any situation where it is appropriate to use IUPUI's name. Download the appropriate graphic from the Official Wordmarks Page.

Spirit Marks

Spirit marks should be used when representing spirit and pride initiatives of the unit. They are not meant to be used in place of the IUPUI word mark as an official identifier for the campus.

The full value of the Spirit Marks as the secondary identifier of the campus can be sustained only if it is used correctly and consistently by all units at IUPUI. Download the appropriate graphic from the Official Spirit Wordmarks Page.

Area of Isolation and Minimum Size

For the logo to achieve maximum impact, it must be kept free from conflicting visual elements. The "area of isolation" is the minimum amount of free space that must surround the IUPUI identifying marks. Do not place type, photos, or any other elements within this space. To maintain a consistent identity and take advantage of our campuswide marketing efforts, it is preferred that the IUPUI wordmarks are used on all campus publications on the front cover, in the upper right or left corner, or centered within the top third of the publication.

Official Colors

IUPUI's color palette was confirmed in Fall 1994 and revised in Fall 2002 after extensive survey research and focus group testing. Consistent and appropriate use of these ink selections will enhance and reinforce the campus identity. The campus colors were drawn from the traditional colors of the two universities that form IUPUI - the IU red and the Purdue gold.

Colors in the palette may be used extensively both for large areas of color and for accent colors.

When using campus colors print the logo and wordmarks only in red or black against a white or light-colored background. These identifying marks may be reversed out to white against a full-bleed photograph or against a background printed only with Pantone 201. On a solid gold background, the identifying marks should be printed in red or black.

The identifiers may be printed all in one color: red, black, or white.

IUPUI is Indiana's premier urban research university. The campus enrolls more than 30,000 students in 21 schools and academic units.
