Students and faculty provided an "insider's glimpse" of the campus culture.
Faculty interviews conveyed the high quality of academics and research on campus.
On-campus student life was illustrated with imagery of student organizations, athletics, and other activities.
During the 1999-2000 "Why Not Both?" campaign, IUPUI reintroduced itself to Indianapolis and central Indiana, shining a spotlight on the 250-plus-acre campus in the heart of downtown Indianapolis, and defining IUPUI's identity and its role in higher education.
But by the spring of 2006, a new focus was needed. IUPUI's place in the community has been established and is much more widely recognized, but we needed to give people an "insider's glimpse" of the real IUPUI, and focus more attention on the many course and degree offerings available to students, both undergraduate and graduate.
To achieve this goal, the Office of Communications and Marketing developed a series of five commercial spots that targeted high-ability undergraduate students and covered all aspects of life on the campus: studying in one of the Midwest's most dynamic cities, an ever-growing range of activities in on-campus student life, remarkable faculty, diversity in choices of majors, research opportunities for undergraduate students and more.
The commercials continued our efforts to establish IUPUI's national and international reputation for high-quality academic offerings, from associate programs up through Ph.D. degree programs.
The five commercials showed a vibrant student life, including NCAA Division I athletics through images of Jaguars basketball action in "The Jungle," complete with fan spirit and pride. The commercials introduced the region to real IUPUI students talking about the benefits of the IU or Purdue degrees they are pursuing, in downtown Indianapolis. The commercials drove home the advantages of IUPUI's proximity to the heart of Indiana's economic, social, cultural, educational, governmental and legal systems. Those advantages - including internships - made the commercials a hit with undergraduate prospects and their parents.
