Traditional viewbook vs. admissions folders and card inserts

Portfolio : Admissions Print Projects

Each year, the Office of Communications and Marketing works with the Office of Enrollment Services to develop admissions materials targeting high-ability undergraduate prospects entering IUPUI in the upcoming fall semester. The centerpiece of these materials is what colleges and universities call a viewbook, which gives prospective students and their parents an opportunity to learn about all aspects of the IUPUI experience.

The IUPUI viewbook consists of full-color photos depicting student life, images of campus grounds, an outline of the full range of IUPUI's degree offerings, financial aid information and tuition cost.

In 2006, we ushered in a new idea for delivering information to prospective students: a new "Jag Jackets" folder, filled with 6-inch by 10-inch information cards. The concept is consistent with the ever-growing usage of the Internet to acquire information about colleges and universities, by both prospects and their parents. The cards feature specific information about areas of interest, as determined by high school students and their parents.

The cards are designed to help prospects get the information they want quickly and easily, just as they can on line. Our decision was based on research from 2003-06 that told us that viewbooks in their traditional format are dated.
