To enhance the reputation of IUPUI as one of America's top urban universities, the Office of Communications and Marketing produces nearly two dozen news releases per month.
The releases cover a wide range of topics: some extol the achievements of individual researchers or faculty members; others highlight the accomplishments of IUPUI schools, centers or programs. Still others shine a spotlight on individual faculty, staff or students, highlighting their efforts in the classroom, in the laboratory or in the community.
News releases are the primary tool used by the Office of Communications and Marketing to keep the public informed about the work done on the IUPUI campus, and how that work enhances, informs or improves life in the city of Indianapolis and the state of Indiana.
Most news releases are distributed to media outlets in central Indiana, but when it's appropriate, the distribution expands to include media organizations throughout the Midwest, the country and the world. Release also hit targeted audiences in specific fields, through journals and professional periodicals, emphasizing the top-notch work being done in specific fields.
Releases typically are generated by the media relations experts within Communications and Marketing, Rich Schneider and Diane Brown. When individual schools or programs create releases, they often are filtered through the two experts to ensure maximum quality of writing, as well as increase the possibility of reaching additional audiences.
