From the first campus website in the 1990's until 2004, www.iupui.edu served as a mere portal to websites for other offices and units on campus. With this philosophy, key messages about the campus weren't being told on easy-to-reach webpages, and many weren't communicated at all.
In 2004, Communications & Marketing worked to redesign the campus homepage to better serve campus goals. Market research and best practices of peer and aspirational peer insitutions were the primary contributers to the new design. Market research included focus groups and interviews with prospective students, their parents, current students, faculty, and staff.
The new website would include positioning statements and relevant information for a number of audiences. In 2005, "Impact IUPUI" features were added to key pages, such as academics, research, About IUPUI, and Community Engagement. These features demonstrate the IUPUI story, expanding upon the general positioning statements found on those pages, and telling memorable stories that may resonate with the audience.
