Web Specialist

I'm still a n00b in the Communications and Marketing world of IUPUI, but I've been around the block when it comes to web design. I hand coded my first web site in Notepad way back in 1995. I remember when table layout was considered crafty and gray backgrounds were the norm. Nowadays, I am a huge fan of CSS and XHTML (although I still think the old school <br> tag is way cooler, as evidenced by the tattoo on my left arm), and I strive to maintain clean and efficient coding in all the web sites I design. I'm an advocate for standardization and look forward to the day when Firefox is the one and only browser in existence.

Before coming to the Office of Communications and Marketing, I worked as a Research Associate at the School of Informatics. I spent most of my time designing graphics and interfaces for interactive health education software, as well as teaching an introductory web design class in the New Media department. I still teach this class in an Adjunct Faculty position, which encourages me to keep current on trends and issues in web design.

Favorite Job Duties/Responsibilities

I enjoy maintaining the Division of Student Life web site (life.iupui.edu). Everyone in the department is super friendly to work with and very appreciative of my efforts. Maintaining the web site also keeps me up-to-date on events around campus.

When I'm not at work I'm...

Cuddling with my cats, reading a "Harry Potter" book or watching a "Harry Potter" movie, relaxing on my porch, rocking out at local punk shows, or consuming mass amounts of Diet Coke at the Alleycat.

Favorite Movie

"Ghostbusters." I know every line to this movie. Think I'm lying? Watch it with me sometime; you will be thoroughly annoyed (or impressed).

Favorite Television Shows

I haven't had cable television in almost eight years, so I only watch what my antenna picks up, which isn't much. I will never miss a single episode of "24," I have every season of "The O.C." on DVD, and "The Simspons"/"Seinfeld" block is a post-work must. I'm also just now getting into "Twin Peaks," and if I wake up early enough on a Saturday, I love to catch "Phil of the Future." But really, I don't watch much television.

Favorite Drink

Southern style sweet tea. There is nothing better.

Favorite Color

#3366CC

Favorite Authors

J.K.Rowling, Orson Scott Card and Philip K. Dick. (I'm a sucker for "Harry Potter" and sci-fi.)
