Director of Media Relations

In some ways, working with the media is a lot like fishing. You need bait to attract fish and "news" to attract reporters. As director of media relations for IUPUI I am always in search of news to lure reporters to campus.

My primary responsibilities are to serve as campus spokesman, when needed; assist the chancellor and his cabinet with media-relations matters; and help promote, through the media, the reputation of schools on campus, their faculty, students, and academic programs.

Before coming to IUPUI in 2000, I was press secretary to Indiana Attorneys General Pam Carter and Jeff Modisett. Prior to that, I served as director of external affairs for the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration, which provides a wide range of services to children and families in need, older adults, and adults with disabilities. A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, I was a newspaper reporter, ending that part of my career as a statehouse reporter for The Indianapolis News.
