Director of Electronic Media

By trade, I produce multimedia — static and dynamic websites, video, etc. As Director of Electronic Media, I oversee the strategy and production of electronic communications of the IUPUI campus, and also have the joy of producing multimedia whenever I can. I serve as executive producer of all multimedia and video produced by the Office of Communications & Marketing.

The Electronic Media Team manages the campus website, JagTV digital signage, campus events website, virtual tour system, official photo gallery, several departmental websites, JagNews, and many other electronic media. Additionally, the team consults with campus units regarding web projects, especially in the areas of accessible web design, usability, and branding.

When I'm not managing the web team, I produce multimedia — everything from websites to DVDs. My passion is video production, and I've produced several projects while at IUPUI that have had a considerable impact on major programs and events. I typically produce all aspects of most projects, including art direction, acquiring footage, producing effects and DVD authoring (or preparing footage for the web).

I'm also a web developer with over a decade of professional experience, and, over the past few years, have been most interested in usability and truly accessible web design. I also am a programmer of web-based applications, especially projects that involve dynamic content and database interactivity. I believe in automating processes, and often-times data-driven web applications are the best way to accomplish that.

Prior to working for Communications & Marketing at IUPUI, I worked in sales and marketing for several years as a sales representative in the hospitality industry, and produced multimedia projects as a freelancer. My bachelor's degree is in Media Arts and Science from the IU School of Informatics at IUPUI.

Favorite Job Duties/Responsibilities

My passion is taking projects, events, or programs to the next level. I've done that during my entire professional career, and I continue that at IUPUI. That mindset is the fuel behind my drive (or, some call insane work ethic) and is what makes me excited to go to work every day.

Favorite Project

My favorite projects were:
JagTV, IUPUI's digital signage network. The 46" video screens now around campus significantly enhance the spaces they are in. And the network provides a new communications channel that departments and students can take advantage of. It means a more informed student body, faculty and staff. And that helps the campus overcome some large hurdles.

IUPUI 2007 Commencement video production, as it impacted nearly an audience of nearly 20,000, put smiles on thousands of faces, and transformed this campus annual tradition.

When I'm not at work I'm...

  1. Playing with my kids
  2. Camping, which involves exploring US geologic or historic destinations.

Favorite drink

Guinness. Draught or Original, your pick.

Favorite color:

Union Blue. Similar to #2F476D, PMS 534C

Favorite TV Show:

  1. Survivorman on Discover Channel. The show is shot by one man who risks death every episdoe.
  2. Documentary-style productions on History Channel, Discovery Channel, etc.

IUPUI is Indiana's premier urban research university. The campus enrolls more than 30,000 students in 21 schools and academic units.
