Coordinator of Campus Pride, Spirit and Tradition

Around here, I'm simply known as "Spirit Girl," working with all that is campus Pride, Spirit, and Tradition. The job is so broad, it's hard to put it in a neat and tidy box – I like to wear a lot of hats I guess you would say. These roles include developing marketing initiatives, management/development of promotional materials inventory, event planning, consulting, project management, student internship management, and spirit team management (Cheerleaders, Pep Band, Mascots, etc.).

Before I started working in the Office of Communications & Marketing in the fall of 2005, I was working in a similar position for the IUPUI Athletics Department. There I performed administrative duties, and specialized in event planning, promotions, fundraising, and marketing initiatives. Prior to joining the IUPUI staff I worked as a Sales Assistant at the Indianapolis Business Journal. And somewhere, in a past life it seems, I graduated from Ball State University with a degree in Secondary Education, Social Studies and actually taught high school for a brief stint. In high school, I was an Alexandria Tiger, a close relative of the Jaguar, and strangely enough our colors were also red and gold, so I guess it was destiny to land here at IUPUI and my favorite colors will remain red, gold and black through and through.

Favorite Job Duties/Projects

My favorite project I managed was the History Wall exhibit in the Campus Center. I’m proud of it because I think it turned out to be a beautiful visual portrayal of IUPUI’s rich history and tradition. I was pleased by all the positive comments about the exhibit and I look forward to adding to it as we continue to make history. I have also enjoyed serving as the Chairperson for the 40th Anniversary Steering Committee. It’s been a great opportunity for me to enhance my leadership skills while working on a broad range of celebration initiatives including several special events such as the Recognition Dinner for Senator Lugar and the campus’ inaugural Last Lecture Series. It’s inspiring to see the campus come together to achieve the common goal of celebrating our past and blazing a trail for the future.

When I'm not at work

I love to spend time with my family and friends – especially my daughter. I enjoy movies, sporting events, yoga, board games, cook-outs, and lounging by the pool with a good book or magazine.

Favorite Drink

If you’re going to Starbuck’s I’ll take a Grande non-fat Carmel Macchiato, please.

Favorite TV shows

I'm a TV junkie. Always have been, always will be. My grandmother raised me on “Guiding Light,” "Sesame Street," "Mr. Rogers," “Price Is Right” and "Saved by the Bell." Right now my DVR is set for current favorites such as: "Grey's Anatomy," "American Idol," "30 Rock," "Scrubs," "24," and "The Office.” Two of my all-time favorites in the television archives: “Arrested Development” and “West Wing.” The writing on these shows was sheer brilliance.

IUPUI is Indiana's premier urban research university. The campus enrolls more than 30,000 students in 21 schools and academic units.
