Executive Director of Communications & Marketing

My title may call me "executive director," but my most important task in marketing and promoting IUPUI is putting the right people in the right places to advance the campus, to do it as quickly and efficiently as possible, and making sure our office environment blends serious work and serious fun.

When we have the tools and resources we need, the people who work in our office can - and will - elevate the performance and push the IUPUI campus to ever-higher rungs on the higher education ladder. I have a great boss in Amy Warner, our Vice Chancellor for External Affairs, who not only puts up with my wildest ideas, but encourages them. In turn, I put up with every crazy idea the folks in OCM conceive, because you never know where the next great idea will take you. And in our office, all ideas are welcome - and correctly credited - from top to bottom. And trust me, just like in my home, I'm at the bottom!

I am proud to say that this is the best TEAM that OCM has ever had. What do I mean by this? Simply put, we have extraordinary talent in all phases of our operation now, and the right people leading the way. Our office operates at an extremely fast pace - sometimes faster than our colleagues on campus are used to - in order to keep IUPUI's "image train" on track. The advancement of IUPUI left the station in 1999, and is moving along the rails at ever-increasing speed to keep us ahead of the competition. So hang on!

I love my job!!

Favorite job duties & responsibilities

I love thinking about marketing and promoting the campus 24 hours a day - and that's what it takes.

Favorite Project

My favorite projects are any project that has advanced the IUPUI cause since 1999, but if I had to name one that was the most fun, it would be the "Jagnificent" campaign.

"Jagnificent" started as a buzz word around campus signifying a "pride in place," but has become so much more. Now, it's a benchmark from one end of our campus to the other, capturing the spirit of accomplishment and the commitment to a brighter future for our students, our faculty AND our staff.

The campaign was launched as a way to make our student-athletes proud to play for IUPUI, not just the coaches or themselves. When our 2002-03 men's basketball team earned a spot in the NCAA tournament, it garnered the campus millions of dollars in national publicity. But more importantly, that success story - tied as it was to "Jagnificent" - became the foundation for a campus-wide drive to succeed. It opened everyone's eyes to the possibilities before us, the opportunities we have and made us more determined than ever to become a key part of the future of Indianapolis and the state of Indiana.

The other campaign close to my heart was the creation of the IUPUI fight song, which has helped give our dreams and aspirations a special voice.

When I'm not at work I'm ...

Spending time with family or indulging in my passions ...

  1. Traveling to major league baseball games;
  2. On the shooting range; and
  3. Being entertained by my kids instead of TV.

Favorite Movie

It's a toss up between The Outlaw Josey Wales or The Godfather—and don't forget; leave the gun, bring the cannoli.

Favorite drink

Macallan 18.

Favorite colors

Red, gold, black and white

Favorite TV Show

There is only one show I watch religiously: The Sopranos.
