Introduction
JagNews is primarily an internal communications tool at IUPUI, edited and produced by the Electronic Media team within Communications & Marketing. Academic units and other organizations at IUPUI may utilize JagNews to communicate brief messages.

Format
JagNews is available in three formats: a semi-weekly text-only email, online on various audience-specific pages and the RSS syndication format.
E-Mail Edition
Audience
Current IUPUI undergraduate students are the primary audience for JagNews. At present, over 75% of JagNews e-mail subscribers are current undergraduates. Graduate students, faculty and staff are secondary audiences.
Message Priority
Due to space restrictions, JagNews emails are limited to a maximum of 10 messages per edition. Thus, not all JagNews submissions can be included in the email version. Submissions will be accepted based on this priority:
- Official communications from the IU President, IUPUI Chancellor, Dean of Faculties, Dean of Students, or IUPUI Office of Communications & Marketing
- Enrollment Services messages pertaining to the student body at large
- Major campus events (> 5,000 expected attendees) run by an academic unit or office
- Event announcements for events run by a department or academic unit (> 100 expected student attendees)
- Event announcements for events run by a student organization (> 300 expected attendees)
- Event announcements for events run by a department or academic unit (50 - 100 expected student attendees)
- Event announcements for events run by a student organization (50 - 300 expected attendees)
- Event announcements for events run by a department or academic unit (> 50 expected faculty or staff attendees)
Positioning
Exact positioning within the JagNews email cannot be guaranteed, except for official communications from the IU President, IUPUI Chancellor, Dean of Faculties, or Dean of Students, or messages deemed urgent by Communications & Marketing.
Frequency
Each message submission will appear in the next JagNews only (space permitting) or may be bumped to a later edition should there be enough time before the event date. The same (or similar) message from a department may only run in JagNews twice per month. Special permission may be granted by Communications & Marketing to repeat a message in future editions (space permitting).
Online Editions
JagNews is placed on several heavily viewed pages on the IUPUI campus website. On pages targeted to a specific audience, JagNews for that audience only is listed on the page (for instance, Current Students and Faculty and Staff pages may have different JagNews content).
Duration
All JagNews submissions appear in the online edition, while not all are guaranteed listing in the email edition. JagNews messages may appear in the online edition for a maximum of 10 calendar days. An ending date is required when submitting JagNews. If the message is the announcement of an event, and the event occurs prior to the 10 day maximum, the date of the event will be considered the end date.
Make certain to include not only the date of your event, but the deadline for RSVP or registration if applicable.
Message Submission
- JagNews announcements must be submitted via a form at www.iupui.edu/~iuihome/jagnews/submit/. Submissions must include all information requested on the form.
- Messages submitted to JagNews must be campus-wide in scope (all students and/or all faculty/staff).
- Message summary is limited to 500 characters (including spaces)
- Message text is limited to 1500 characters (including spaces)
- Submissions for JagNews email must be at least 48 hours prior to the next scheduled email
- All messages must be approved and edited by Communications & Marketing prior to appearing in the online or email editions of JagNews
